IWhat's new at A&A?
Carrington Career and Workwear will be showing Frants, a new FR, anti-static shirting fabric, for the first time at A+A Exhibition in Germany.  With a superb appearance and handle and weighing only 140 gsm, Frants is aimed at workers in the oil and petrochemical industries in hot climates.

An upmarket range of outer fabrics intended to be worn by firefighters in emergencies is being launched at A+A exhibition in Germany.  The new Heroskin twill fabric is made up of 99% Kermel fibre with 1% antistatic fibre.  The main asset of Heroskin, an inherently FR fabric, is that it is able to retain its appearance over an exceptionally long period of time.  Heroskin is available in different weights, weaves and colours broadening the range of fabrics that can be used in emergency intervention garments.
A complete new system of cooling vests, to address the problems of heat stress, is being launched at A+A by Orvec Microgard.  The vests incorporate the latest PCM (Phase Change Materials) technology, Outlast Adaptive Comfort, which was originally developed for NASA. The Microgard cool vests, which are designed for use in the petrochemical, chemical clean up and other high temperature sectors, can be worn either next to the skin or over a thin t-shirt style garment and improve comfort and reduce heat stress when worn under protective outer garments.  Intelligent phase change materials incorporate microcapsules - around 1,000 fit on the head of a pin.  Inside the microcapsules, substances similar to paraffin are stored and these are capable of phase change in the same way that water becomes ice or vapour when energy is added or taken away. PCM technology takes advantage of exactly the same law of physics and enables the fabric to adapt to body temperature resulting in less overheating, less sweating, less chill and active temperature regulation.  The Microgard cool vests are constructed with a detachable hood which is fitted using Velcro fasteners to ensure a comfortable fit and a flexible approach for use in different applications. Many international experts have contributed to this book for designers, operators, regulators, emergency services, manufacturers and researchers.
Finally the whole spectrum of all knowledge available in this field has been collected in one volume, which covers fire safety management and human behaviour, fire prevention and protection, ventilation, fire dynamics and fire investigation, emergency services and emergency procedures and tunnel fire safety and the law.
Alan Beard, reader in Fire Safety Engineering of the Heriot Watt-University in Edinburgh and Richard Carvel a research associate at the same university have collected research from some of the top experts in fire safety engineering for this book.
The editors feel that fire safety in tunnels has become a major international issue, following catastrophic tunnel fires which have occurred worldwide. As a result it has become essential to gain a much better understanding of all aspects of tunnel fire safety, from basic science to acceptable risk and law. This need has produced a significant increase in research and investigation.
The fundamental principles which emerge from this, form the bedrock for decision-making on how tunnels can be designed, upgraded and operated in an acceptable way.

Fire Tough/Smelter Sock from SpotNet
