16th International Water Mist Conference – programme published

The International Water Mist Conference takes place at the Arcotel Wimberger in Vienna, Austria 21-22 September 2016.

A highlight of Day One of the conference, which will concentrate on practical applications, will include a presentation on portable water mist extinguishers used in the International Space Station. Other themes are:

  • Advanced fully automatic fire detection and extinguishing systems with robotic nozzles
  • Aerosol turbines for mitigation of harmful emissions and firefighting: efficiency comparison vs. traditional techniques
  • High-pressure water mist firefighting system for sugar factory protection
  • Water mist fire protection for the food industry
  • A residential water mist suppression system with a flow of six litres per minute.

During Day Two presentations will focus on research and testing with one lucky winner receiving the first ever IWMA Young Talent Award. Highlights include:

  • Proof of suitability of a water mist fire protection system in a hotel atrium
  • Scaling down of water mist systems with conservation of Froude numbers
  • The use of a water mist curtain as a radiation shield
  • Simulation of water mist system activation time in an intensive care  unit
  • An evaluation of water mist suppression of FM Global HC-2 and HC-3 fire hazards
  • Inhibition effectiveness of water mist on ignition of propane/air mixture.

The event will feature a total of 21 presentations from countries including Norway, Iran, USA, Italy and Austria.
