Several fire departments meet for a series of regional response task force drills.

The Special Operations teams in Phoenix, Arizona (US) hosted a number of regional partners including teams from Glendale, Chandler, Peoria, Scottsdale, Daisy Mountain, Tempe, Phoenix, Surprise, Buckeye, Gilbert, Goodyear and Mesa.

The specialised teams tackled technical response scenarios comprising a collapsed five-story parking garage, chemical/biological/radiation/nuclear/explosive (CBRNE) scenarios, as well as an intentional chlorine release.

‘This drill had some very technical obstacles involved which enabled the units to utilise special equipment and really do some creative thinking,’ said Captain Zientek of the Phoenix Fire Department. The veteran Captain added: ‘The Phoenix area has the most unique relationship with the interaction of our fire departments. We all serve, basically, as one fire department to 28 cities and have no boundaries.’

The drills also included participation with area police departments. Captain Zientek added: ‘We all train together and work seamlessly with our neighbouring cities, and we have a very good relationship with our Police officers as well.’
