Key fob causes truck to explode
Published:  13 September, 2013

Explosion wrecks vehicle and causes havoc in neighbourhood.

Imagine the scene. You step out of your house, press the button to unlock your vehicle, and it explodes.

That is what happened to a contractor in the Carolanne Farms neighbourhood of Virginia Beach (VA) on 21st August, as reported on pilotonline.com.

It is thought that the explosion was caused by a leaking acetylene bottle in the truck, which resulted in fumes building up overnight.

Virginia Beach Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Crandell said the heating and air conditioning engineer was lucky – had he got into the truck to start the engine, things might have turned out differently.
