The conference is organised by JOIFF, the international organisation for industrial emergency response and fire hazard management. The event aims to address some of the most pressing topics in an industry that is under pressure as a result of the protracted economic downturn and a ‘lower for longer’ oil price environment.
Areas that will be covered include prevention (inherently safe design); protection (fixed protection with minimum human intervention); preparedness (fire hazard analysis, credible scenario development, risk assessments and reduction options); response (implementation, test and exercise, maintain and review); and recovery (predetermining critical components with long lead times).
The two-day conference will be chaired by Randal Fletcher, JOIFF chair and BP global response advisor. Conference speakers include Eric Yap, commissioner of Singapore’s Civil Defence Force; Thad Allen, senior executive advisor at Booz Allen Hamilton; and Jose Torero, chair of the Department of Fire Protection Engineering and director of the Centre for Disaster Resilience in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Maryland.
